About Dr. Reken

Dr. Van Reken earned his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School and a BS from Calvin College. He completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Blodgett and St. Mary's Hospitals in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was board certified in internal medicine, with certification running through 2024.

He cares for complex patients who take several medications and have problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. He typically spends about 30 minutes on return visits and an hour or more on new patients. He regularly gives injections for joints, plantar fasciitis and other orthopedic problems, including off-label PRP injections into joints.

He has been especially interested in skin and beauty issues since 2006. His concierge program gives members his personal cell phone number so they can text him, and he calls back day or night. He speaks English fluently and some Spanish, mainly medical Spanish.

He no longer practices in the hospital, but he will discuss a patient's case with hospital or ER doctors. He enjoys traveling, wildlife watching, chess and Words with Friends.
