This page explains how we write our health articles and how we keep the information about doctors accurate.

Health articles

Our articles about health conditions and procedures are written to help you understand a topic and find a doctor. They are not medical advice.

  • Sources. The sources we list on an article come only from government health agencies, nonprofit medical societies and patient organizations. We do not list companies that sell products or hospital systems as sources. Each article lists its main sources at the end.
  • Medical review. Each condition and procedure article names the physician who reviewed it and the date of the review. You can read about them on our medical reviewers page.
  • Use of AI. We use artificial intelligence (AI) to help draft and fact-check articles. A physician reviews the final text, and claims that cannot be supported by a reliable source are removed.
  • Unproven treatments. When we write about a treatment that is not backed by good evidence, we say so plainly. We explain what it is, who offers it and what the research does and does not show.

Doctor information

Every fact on a doctor's page is saved with the web address where we found it and the date we checked it. Our page on how we check doctors explains exactly which sources we use and the rules a fact has to pass before we show it.

Fees are shown only when they come from the practice's own website, from the doctor, or from two separate sources that agree, and we record the date we checked them. Prices change, so please confirm the current price with the practice before you sign up.

Keeping things current

Doctors who claim their profile can update it at any time. Some changes are checked before they appear. Patients and doctors can report a mistake, and we look at every report within a few business days.

Independence

Advertisers and sponsors cannot change the checked facts on a doctor's page, our health articles or patient reviews. Our advertising policy explains how paid placements are labeled.

Not medical advice

Information on this website is for education only and does not create a doctor-patient relationship. Always talk with a licensed clinician about your own health. If you think you have a medical emergency, call 911.
