About Dr. Akerman

Dr. Akerman joined the Fertility Center of Miami in 1999. He is Medical Director of its egg freezing program, which he developed and directs. He graduated with honors from the Universidad de Buenos Aires in Argentina, where he also completed his OB/GYN residency in 1992.

He completed an internship in pathology at Albert Einstein School of Medicine in 1993 and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 1997. His fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility was at the University of Louisville in 1999. He focuses on infertility, including gestational surrogacy and oocyte donation, and on in vitro fertilization and ovulation induction.

He also performs open, laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, including reconstructive surgery for tubal disease, endometriosis and myomas, and reversal of tubal ligation. He has helped individuals, same-sex couples, single parents and LGBT patients build families. As part of holistic care, he works with psychologists, urologists and acupuncturists.

He became president of the Florida Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in 2015. He has spoken at numerous international fertility meetings and has taken part in hundreds of conferences and symposiums worldwide as a panelist.
