He did his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Colorado Health Science Center.
He completed a three-year fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Duke University Medical Center. That training included laser laparoscopic surgery and microsurgery for tubal reversals. He stayed on the Duke faculty for four years after his fellowship, continuing research and training others.
