About Dr. Khachatryan

Dr. Khachatryan earned a bachelor's degree in molecular biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1988. He received his medical degree, with honors, from Yale University School of Medicine in 1996. He did his surgical internship and orthopedic residency at the University of Utah Department of Orthopedics, then a combined spine fellowship there and at Shriner's Hospital for Children.

He specializes in cervical disc replacement and minimally invasive spine surgery. He believes in keeping motion through disc replacement rather than fusion. He was one of the first in Utah to implant artificial discs, in both the lumbar and cervical spine.

Patients have come from across the U.S. and from other countries for consultations and surgery. He has been invited to lecture and train other spine surgeons on cervical artificial disc implants at national and international conferences. He also hosts surgeons from the U.S. and abroad for observation and hands-on training in cervical disc arthroplasty.
