He has a special interest in non-fusion stabilization of the spine. Dr. Sengupta graduated from the University of Calcutta in India in 1981. He had several fellowship trainings in neurosurgery and orthopedic spine surgery in Liverpool and Nottingham in the United Kingdom, at William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan and at Texas Back Institute.

He also earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Nottingham University for work on non-fusion stabilization of the spine. He has published more than 50 original research articles and more than 50 book chapters, and he edited the book Dynamic Reconstruction of the Spine. He took part in a Bangladesh mission from 2009 to 2011.
