About Dr. Aya-Ay
Dr. Aya-Ay graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in Biology. He studied for a master's in Biomedical Sciences at Marshall University and graduated from Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, WV. He completed his family medicine residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and was named Family Medicine Resident of the Year there in 2007.
He is board certified in family medicine and has a special interest in preventative care and lifestyle medicine. He is a co-founder of Palmetto Proactive Healthcare and was elected President of the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians. In an interview with the Palmetto Promise Institute, he shared that he started the practice with Dr. Chris McCarthy after they realized during residency that the business side of medicine was hurting patients.
The same interview noted that he worked overnight in York, SC in the traditional model while opening the Spartanburg practice, which saw about one patient a week at first.
