About Dr. Yerkes

Dr. Yerkes graduated from Villanova University and spent five years working as an engineer before turning to medicine, enrolling at Drexel University College of Medicine, where he earned his MD in 2016. He trained in Family Medicine at Christiana Care Health System, where he also served as Chief Resident. He served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour in Iraq as a combat engineer. He is a co-owner of Core Family Practice, a direct primary care practice in Kennett Square, and chose direct primary care because he believes the cost of health care should be transparent and insurance should not inhibit care. He was born and raised in the Kennett Square area and is passionate about serving the community where he grew up.

In 2017, Dr. Yerkes was one of 30 scholarship recipients nationwide for the AAFP Foundation's Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute, and in 2018 he won the Best Project Award in its Policy & Public Health Leadership track for a project on veterans' mental health, which led him to a position on the Delaware Suicide Prevention Coalition's Military Subcommittee. He has served as a board member of the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians.

He has co-authored peer-reviewed research on the U.S. primary care workforce and on direct primary care practice locations in health professional shortage areas.
