About Dr. Herring
Dr. Herring earned her osteopathic medical degree at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa in 2001. Her residency in general psychiatry ended in 2006, and her child psychiatry fellowship finished that same year. She is the founder and medical director of Tulsa Family Psychiatry & Wellness.
For almost a decade she worked in outpatient community mental health at Family and Children's Services, focused on traumatized children. In 2015 she moved to inpatient psychiatric care for all ages at Shadow Mountain Behavioral Health Hospital and Parkside Behavioral Health Hospital in Tulsa. She directed the acute and residential children's units at Shadow Mountain and served as medical director of the TCAT Parkside Unit for children and adolescents.
During her fellowship she developed an interest in animal assisted psychotherapy for traumatized children. She also helped create a program in which children read to dogs in Oklahoma City public libraries. She has been on mission trips to Mexico, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and she likes to travel.
