About Dr. Phelan

Dr. Phelan has fellowship training in knee and sports medicine and practices at The Bone & Joint Center. He earned his medical degree at Albany Medical College in 1998 and finished an internship in orthopaedic surgery there in 1999. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Albany Medical College in 2003. He also completed a residency year at Shriners Children's New England in Springfield, MA in 2002.

In 2004 he finished a sports medicine fellowship at Kaiser Permanente San Diego. He earned board certification in orthopaedic surgery in 2006 from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has given a seminar about knee arthritis and the choices for treating it.

At the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship at the Times Union Center, he once treated a St. Cloud State player on the ice.
