About Dr. Furst

Dr. Furst earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from New York University before earning his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's New Jersey Medical School, now known as Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, in 1976. He completed his internship and residency at Overlook Hospital, now Overlook Medical Center, in Summit, New Jersey. He is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. He is affiliated with Morristown Medical Center.

Before joining Vanguard Medical Group in 2017, Dr. Furst served as medical director for Atlantic Health System's First Primary Care practice in Denville, New Jersey. Earlier in his career, he pioneered the idea of urgent care as an alternative to a hospital ER, opening a first-of-its-kind urgent care clinic in a rural area of New Jersey in 1982. He served as president of Emergency Medical Associates of New Jersey and as director of Emergency Medical Services at St. Clare's Medical Center.

Outside medicine, Dr. Furst served as president of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, which helps find homes and alternate careers for retired racehorses.
