About Dr. Ponnuru
Dr. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, then completed an internal medicine residency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at Sinai Samaritan Medical Center, where he won the Humanitarian of the Year and Outstanding Resident of the Year awards and served as chief resident.
Before joining Menorah Medical Center in 2004, he worked at Barnes Jewish Hospital and in private practice in St. Louis, Missouri, and he served as president of the Menorah Medical Center medical staff in 2012. He has a special interest in diabetes care and has served on medical mission teams in Honduras and Guatemala. He was recognized with the Patients Choice Award from 2011 to 2014 and named among America's Most Compassionate Doctors from 2011 to 2013.
He moved his practice to a Direct Primary Care model on August 1, 2014. He has said that many patients tell him no doctor has ever spent as much time with them, and that he finds satisfaction when a patient feels heard and cared for.
I've had many patients tell me that this is the longest a doctor has spent time with me in my whole life. The satisfaction is when you think you're doing a good job and you're being thorough, and the patient feels heard and they feel like someone cares about them.
