About Dr. Abendroth
Dr. Abendroth is the physician and medical director at Abendroth Modern Medicine, an independent, physician-owned concierge practice. He started it to offer care that is proactive, preventive and personalized, with a focus on healthy longevity. He blends conventional, lifestyle, integrative and functional medicine, and he fits the most useful parts of each to the patient.
Dr. Abendroth earned his osteopathic medical degree at Des Moines University and completed a family medicine residency at Iowa Lutheran Family Medicine. In 2023 he finished a two-year fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona. He has also trained through The Institute for Functional Medicine.
He has practiced outpatient medicine in Des Moines since 2014. He began as a family physician at UnityPoint Clinic and then moved to his own clinic, Sana Vita Health. That earlier clinic was Iowa's first Direct Primary Care clinic.
Outside the clinic, he enjoys strength training, cooking, sailing and sports cars with manual transmissions.
