Dr. Michele Benjamin, MD

About Dr. Benjamin

Dr. Benjamin earned her Doctor of Medicine and a Healthcare MBA from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University, class of 2020. She also earned a Master's in Medical Science from the University of South Florida, class of 2014. She was a family medicine resident at West Kendall Baptist Hospital in Miami and is board certified in family medicine.

In December 2025 she completed the Institute for Functional Medicine certification. She co-opened Awaken Health Direct Primary Care in Broward County in 2023. The practice uses a direct care model with a monthly membership fee instead of insurance billing for office visits.

Dr. Benjamin says direct primary care lets her build deeper, more personal relationships with patients. Her approach focuses on the foundations of health, such as real food, movement, mindfulness and preventing illness by addressing root causes. She believes food is medicine.

She supports women through hormonal changes such as perimenopause, menopause and postpartum. Outside of work she recharges through gardening, meditation and exploring nature. She was the first alumna or alumnus of her medical college to establish an endowed scholarship for future medical students.
