About Dr. Townsend
Dr. Townsend studied at Wake Forest University and earned his medical degree at the University of South Florida on a Navy scholarship. He trained in aerospace medicine in the Navy and served as a flight surgeon. His service included deployments to Sicily, Puerto Rico and Iceland, and he supported NASA shuttle launches.
After leaving the Navy in 2001, he did his family medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. He spent 19 years as the lead physician at Baptist Primary Care. He served on the Quality Assurance committee and was the Physician Champion for electronic medical records.
He also worked as the chief medical informatics officer for ambulatory care at Flagler Health. He founded a medical spa called Spa Me in Ponte Vedra. Dr. Townsend founded Ponte Vedra Concierge Medicine.
He chose the concierge and direct primary care model so he can keep a small patient base. His experience covers primary care, sports medicine and cosmetics. Outside work, he enjoys golf, tennis and fishing.
