Dr. Kurt Hafer, MD

About Dr. Hafer

Dr. Hafer practices primary care internal medicine at Stanford Concierge Medicine. He earned his medical degree at The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1999 and finished his residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose in 2002. He earned a B.A. in Psychology from Pomona College and worked as a neuro-endocrine peptide researcher at the University of Michigan.

From 2002 to 2012, he taught medical students and residents as a teaching attending physician and adjunct Stanford physician. He joined Stanford in 2012 as the founding Medical Director of the Stanford Primary Care Portola Valley Clinic. In January 2017, he became Medical Director of Stanford Concierge Medicine.

In that role he directs the growth of the clinic's mental health and wellness offerings and its pilot genetics and pharmacogenomics screening programs. He also directed pilots of telehealth phone and video visits and the integration of specialty care physicians into Stanford primary care clinics. Dr. Hafer believes that truly knowing his patients as individuals, communicating well and giving comprehensive preventive care allow him to care for them well.

Outside of work, he enjoys cycling, hiking, tinkering with vintage Datsuns and wearing vintage watches.
