About Dr. Hood

Dr. Hood earned a BS in Chemical Engineering, cum laude, from Auburn University and his MD at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. After a surgical internship and residency at LSU Medical School and a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Jefferson Medical College, he spent over 25 years in surgical and hospital care in the San Francisco Bay Area. He completed physician retraining and reentry in primary care at UC San Diego in 2021-22.

He retired from that surgical work in 2022 and founded Private Medicine Lafayette. Private Medicine Lafayette is a concierge practice that always has fewer than 300 patients. Members pay a yearly fee for comprehensive primary care.

The practice focuses on men between 30 and 80 years old and takes a limited number of patients outside that range. His focus is helping patients live longer through comprehensive primary and preventive care. He also works on quality of life, using fitness and athletic performance.
